We are introducing a new setting in GymRealm Manager that helps gyms reduce membership sharing and improve check-in security when using the mobile application with dynamic QR codes.
With this new feature, gyms can block customers from generating a dynamic QR code unless they have uploaded a profile picture and have a valid membership.
Why this matters
Dynamic QR codes are a convenient way for members to check in using the mobile application. However, without additional security checks, there is always a risk that customers may share their login details with another person.
By requiring a profile picture before generating a QR code, gym staff can quickly verify that the person checking in is the actual member. This adds an important layer of protection and helps prevent misuse of active memberships.
New setting: Mandatory profile picture for dynamic QR code
A new option is now available under the Mobile Application settings:
Mandatory profile picture in order to generate dynamic QR code
When this option is enabled, a customer will not be able to generate a dynamic QR code unless their profile includes a picture. The customer must also have a valid membership.
This ensures that every mobile check-in using a dynamic QR code can be visually verified by gym staff.
Best used with Unique Device ID protection
For maximum security, we recommend combining this option with:
Require unique Device ID when generating QR code
When this setting is enabled, each customer account is linked to a specific mobile device. If the customer logs in from another phone, the gym manager must approve the new device before QR code generation is allowed.
This prevents customers from simply sharing their login credentials with someone else. Even if another person has the username and password, they cannot use the QR code from an unapproved device.
How this helps your gym
Using both settings together greatly reduces the possibility of cheating. It helps prevent:
- Sharing memberships with friends or family
- Logging in from unauthorized devices
- Using another customer’s account to enter the gym
- Generating QR codes without a verified member photo
The result is a more secure check-in process and better control over who is entering your facility.
Recommended setup
For gyms using the mobile application with dynamic QR codes, we recommend enabling both:
Mandatory profile picture in order to generate dynamic QR code
Require unique Device ID when generating QR code
Together, these settings make mobile check-ins safer, easier to verify, and much harder to misuse.
